BILATERAL RELATIONS

Brief information on establishment of diplomatic relations:

“Protocol between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State of Kuwait on establishment of diplomatic relations” was signed on October 07, 1994.

In 2004, it was opened the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the State of Kuwait, and in 2006, the Embassy of the State of Kuwait to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Emil Zulfugar oghlu Karimov was appointed the ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Kuwait on August 19, 2022. The new ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Azerbaijan, Abdulla Muhammad Abdulla Al-Maudi presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E Mr. Ilham Aliyev on September 19, 2022.

Political cooperation:

Since the first years of its independence, the development of bilateral relations with the Islamic world and Arab countries has been one of the priority directions of Azerbaijan's foreign policy. In addition to bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Kuwait, high-level mutually beneficial cooperation relations have been formed within the framework of organizations such as OIC, UN, Non-Aligned Movement, OPEC+.

Relations between Kuwait and Azerbaijan were established during the leadership of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev. Thus, during the visit to Morocco to attend the OIC Summit on December 13, 1994, he met with the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Jabir Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, where the heads of state invited each other to pay an official visit to their countries. During the meeting between the two leaders, the Emir of Kuwait said that aggression against any independent state is unacceptable, but also told the National Leader - "... It needs to help your refugees and we will do it ...".

In 1995, Kuwait opened the office of the Committee of Asian Muslims in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, operating under the International Islamic Charity Organization. In 1996, the Committee of Asian Muslims organized the first international conference to help the refugees and IDPs of Azerbaijan in the city of Baku under the special care of the national leader Heydar Aliyev, and on the instructions of the State of Kuwait. According to the relevant instructions of Sheikh Jabir al-Ahmad al-Jabir al-Sabah, the Emir of the State of Kuwait at that time, in 1995, 5 planes filled with 200 tons of food and medical aid were sent to Azerbaijan.

On July 7, 2000, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev received a delegation of Arab countries. A member of the delegation, Abd al-Aziz Saud al-Babteyn, conveyed the greetings of the Emir of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Jabir Al-Ahmad al-Sabah to the President and said: "... The feelings of the Azerbaijani people during the Armenian aggression were felt by the Kuwaiti people when faced with aggression...” .

On March 14, 2008, the State of Kuwait voted in favor of the UN GA resolution "Situation in the Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan".

The official visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Kuwait on February 10, 2009 is remembered as one of the significant events in international relations, and played an important role in raising relations to a higher level.

During the visit, the Emir of Kuwait presented President Ilham Aliyev with the highest award of his country, the "Mubarak al-Kabir" order, and the President of Azerbaijan presented the Emir with the highest order of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the "Heydar Aliyev" order.

During the visit, a number of agreements was signed between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the State of Kuwait on the “establishment of a joint commission on cooperation”, “promotion and mutual protection of investments”, “elimination of double taxation” and “prevention of tax evasion in relation to income and property taxes”, “cooperation in the field of trade and tourism” with the participation of the heads of state.

Political consultations:

On February 13-14, 2013, the first political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs were held within the framework of the 2nd meeting of the Intergovernmental Joint Commission held in Baku.

On February 10-11, 2009, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E Mr. Ilham Aliyev paid an official visit to the State of Kuwait and held meetings with Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jabir al-Sabah, the Emir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Nasir al-Ahmad al-Sabah, the Prime Minister of Kuwait, and Ali Mohammad Sunayen al-Ghanim, the chairman the Kuwait Chamber of Trade and Industry.

Heads of Parliaments:

In May 1996, the delegation headed by the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan paid an official visit to the State of Kuwait and held meetings with the Emir of the State of Kuwait, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis, the First Deputy Prime Minister, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

On September 19-21, 2018, a delegation led by the Speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly (Parliament) Marzouq Al-Ghanim visited our Republic in order to participate in the ceremonial meeting of the Milli Majlis held in connection with the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Within the framework of the visit, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the Chairman of the National Assembly of Kuwait Marzoug Ali Al-Ghanim.

On June 30-July 1, 2022, a delegation led by the Speaker of the Kuwaiti Parliament, Marzoug Al-Ghanim, visited our country to participate in the Baku Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network.

Foreign Ministers:

On January 20, 2007, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov paid an official visit to Kuwait. The Minister of Foreign Affairs held a number of high-level meetings within the framework of the visit. During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral consultations was signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait.

On June 7, 2007, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Muhammad Sabah al-Salim al-Sabah paid an official visit to Azerbaijan. During the press conference held during the visit, he reminded the Azerbaijani people to defend Kuwait during Iraq's intervention to Kuwait and said the importance of observing the UN resolutions calling for the liberation of Azerbaijani lands occupied in the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. President Ilham Aliyev received Sheikh Muhammad Sabah al-Salim al-Sabah.

On February 13-14, 2013, Deputy Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan to participate in the second meeting of the Joint Commission on Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the State of Kuwait.

On May 27-28, 2015, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, visited the State of Kuwait in order to participate in the 42nd meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

On October 25-26, 2019, a delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah participated in the 18th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement’s member countries held in Baku.

In May 2020, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah spoke at the online summit meeting of the Contact Group of the Non-Aligned Movement on Covid-19 (Unity Against COVID-19), which was initiated by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), H.E Mr. Ilham Aliyev.

On March 1-2, 2023, Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait visited Azerbaijan to attend the Summit-level meeting of the Contact Group on the fight against COVID-19 of the Non-Aligned Organization, dedicated to post-pandemic reconstruction issues.

Ministers:

On April 17-21, 2012, the delegation headed by the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov paid an official visit to the State of Kuwait.

On April 23-24, 2013, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor of the State of Kuwait, Ms. Zikra Al-Rashidi, was on a business trip to the Republic of Azerbaijan to participate in the II meeting of the Islamic Conference of Labor Ministers of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held in Baku.

On October 28-30, 2014, A delegation led by the Minister of Information of the State of Kuwait (at the same time, Minister of State for Sports, Youth, Culture) Sheikh Salman Sabah Salim Al-Hammud Al-Sabah participated at the "First Global Forum on Youth Policy" held in Baku.

On February 19-21, 2015, the chairman of the International Islamic Charity Organization, adviser to the Emir of Kuwait on humanitarian issues, and at the same time the representative of the UN Secretary General on humanitarian issues, Dr. Abdullah Al-Matugh, visited the Republic of Azerbaijan.

On April 16, 2015, Adil Abdulla Al-Falah, deputy minister of endowments and Islamic affairs, and chairman of the Committee of Asian Muslims of Kuwait participated at the international conference on "Islamic Enlightenment and Modern Times" held in Baku, jointly organized by the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), the Administration of Caucasian Muslims and the State Committee for Work with Religious Institutions.

On May 5, 2015, Khalid Salah Al-Rayes, Director General of the Committee of Asian Muslims of the International Islamic Charity Organization of Kuwait, visited Azerbaijan.

On June 12, 2015, a delegation headed by Sheikh Salman Sabah Salim Al-Hammud Al-Sabah, Minister of Information of the State of Kuwait, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, visited Azerbaijan to participate in the opening ceremony of the I European Games held in Baku.

On April 5-6, 2016, a delegation led by the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited the State of Kuwait with the aim of expanding and intensifying cooperation in the fields of culture and tourism between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Gulf countries.

On February 26, 2021, At the invitation of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Faisal Khalifa Al-Savvagh, the head of the Kuwait Electronic Media Union participated in the press conference held by President Ilham Aliyev for local and foreign media representatives.

Inter-parliamentary relations:

 

On May 28, 1995, the National Assembly of Kuwait adopted a decision on the establishment of a "Friendship Group" consisting of 4 members between the parliaments of Kuwait and Azerbaijan.

 

On September 20-22, 1995, at the invitation of the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the delegation headed by the Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of the State of Kuwait, Saleh Yusif Al-Fadallah, paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

 

In September 2001 the need to further strengthen bilateral ties was stressed in meetings with the country's leadership highlighted during a visit to Azerbaijan by a delegation led by Jamal Hussein Fahat al-Omar, head of the Kuwait-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group.

At the meeting of the delegation with Heydar Aliyev on September 27, 2001, the parties once again discussed Kuwait-Azerbaijan cooperation, the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and the fight against international terrorism. Shortly after the attacks of September 11, 2001, President Heydar Aliyev said at a meeting with the Kuwaiti delegation that the concepts of Islam and terrorism are completely different, and that this religion opposes violence. The Azerbaijani President noted the similarities between Iraq's aggression against Kuwait and Armenia's occupation of Azerbaijani lands, and stressed the need for Kuwait and Azerbaijan to help each other as friendly countries.

On September 21-24, 2005, a delegation of members of the "Kuwait-Azerbaijan interparliamentary friendship group" paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan at the invitation of the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. During the visit, the Kuwaiti delegation held meetings with the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Economic Development.

 

On October 21-24, 2007, the official visit of the Kuwait-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group to the Republic of Azerbaijan was carried out.

 

On April 17-21, 2010, a delegation of female deputies of the National Assembly of the State of Kuwait paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan at the invitation of the vice-speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mrs. B. Muradova. On April 20, 2010, female deputies and members of the Kuwait-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship group visited the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Here, the guests were given extensive information about the establishment and multifaceted activities of the foundation named after the national leader of our people.

On June 12-15, 2010, a delegation of members of the Azerbaijan-Kuwait Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group paid an official visit to the State of Kuwait at the invitation of the National Assembly of the State of Kuwait.

On October 17-19, 2011, at the invitation of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a delegation led by the head of the Kuwait-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group of the Kuwaiti Parliament, Walid Al-Tabtabayi, paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

On May 15-17, 2013 by the invitation of the Parliament (Milli Majlis) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Mubarak Saleh Al-Najada, Deputy head of the Committee of the Friendly Groups of the Parliament (National Assembly), Head of Azerbaijani Group of the mentioned Committee, at the same time, one of most active members of the Commission on human rights of the Parliament paid the official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan. During the visit Mr. O.Asadov, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan received Mr. Mubarak Saleh Al-Najada.

On April 30-May 2, 2015 Kuwait-Azerbaijan Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group of the National Assembly of the State of Kuwait led by Saud Al-Hureiji made a visit to the Azerbaijan Republic.

On May 18-19, 2015 Saud Al-Hureiji the leader of the Kuwait – Azerbaijan Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group participated in the Third World Inter-cultural Dialogue Forum held in Azerbaijan.

Cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere

Cooperation in the humanitarian field:

In 1995, the State of Kuwait opened the office of the Committee of Asian Muslims operating under the International Islamic Charity Organization in Baku. The committee provided assistance to refugees and IDPs, as well as to the construction of mosques.

On February 17, 2010, a presentation of the "Justice to Khojaly" campaign was announced in Kuwait at the headquarters of "LoYAC" (Youth Achievement Center), the leading youth organization of Kuwait, initiated by Leyla Aliyeva, chief coordinator of the Youth Forum of the Organization of the Islamic Conference on intercultural dialogue, "Justice to Khojaly" petition was signed and a photo exhibition "Through the eyes of Khojaly children" was organized on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the Khojaly massacre.

On October 10-11, 2011, the Kuwaiti delegation paid a business trip to the Republic of Azerbaijan to participate in the "I Baku International Humanitarian Forum".

On October 03-06, 2012, the Kuwaiti delegation visited the Republic of Azerbaijan to participate in the "II Baku International Humanitarian Forum".

On September 23-25, 2013, the Kuwaiti delegation participated in the "III Baku International Book Fair" dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Azerbaijan's national leader Heydar Aliyev.

From October 31 to November 1, 2013, Sheikha Hussah Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Director General of Kuwait's "Islamic Artifacts" Foundation and an extremely influential public and political figure of Kuwait, participated in the "III Baku International Humanitarian Forum" held in Baku.

On December 3-7, 2013, At the invitation of Sheikha Latifah Al-Fahed Al-Salem Al-Sabah, the Chairman of the State Committee for Women's Affairs of the State of Kuwait the delegation headed by Mrs. Hijran Huseynova, the chairman of the State Committee on Family, Women and Children's Problems of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited the State of Kuwait in order to participate in the work of the 6th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) held in Al-Kuwait city.

On October 2-3, 2014, A large delegation led by Sheikha Fariha Al-Ahmad Al-Jabir Al-Sabah, president of the Kuwait Ideal Family and Mother Society, and Sheikha Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, Honorary President of the Kuwait Disabled Sportsmen's Society visited Azerbaijan to participate in the "IV Baku International Humanitarian Forum" held in Baku. Within the framework of the visit, the Kuwaiti delegation met with the Chairman of the State Committee on Family, Women and Children's Problems of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mrs. Hijran Huseynova, and at the same time visited the orphanage for children deprived of parental care.

On November 16-17, 2016, A Kuwaiti delegation led by Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, director general, chairman of the board of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), and President of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) visited our country to participate in the "V International Congress of World News Agencies" held in Baku. Within the framework of the visit, the Kuwaiti delegation was received by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E Mr. Ilham Aliyev.

On May 16-17, 2017, at the invitation of Mrs. Sheikha Latifah Al-Fahd Al-Salim Al-Sabah, Chairperson of the Committee on Women's Issues of the State of Kuwait, a delegation headed by Mrs. Hijran Huseynova, Chairman of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children's Issues of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited the state of Kuwait to participate in the conference held under the title "Woman - the giver, the builder" dedicated to the "Kuwaiti Women's Day",

On September 19-21, 2018, the adviser to the Emir of Kuwait on humanitarian issues, and at the same time the representative of the UN Secretary General on humanitarian issues, Dr. Abdullah Al-Matugh visited our Republic in order to participate in the ceremonial meeting of the Milli Majlis held in connection with the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

On October 25-26, 2018, Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, General Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), President of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) and Dr. Abdullah Al-Matugh, the chairman of the International Islam Charity Organization, the adviser to the Emir of Kuwait on humanitarian issues, as well as the representative of the UN Secretary General on humanitarian issues visited our country to participate in the VI Baku International Humanitarian Forum.

In November 2018, under the auspices of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jabir Al Sabah, the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office, Sheikhul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh participated in the 8th international conference named "Effective cooperation and information exchange for the sake of improving the quality of humanitarian actions", held in Al-Kuwait city on the theme "Let humanity mobilize against hunger".

On November 14-15, 2019, the delegation led by the special representative of the UN Secretary General, the adviser to the Emir of Kuwait on humanitarian issues and the chairman of the International Islamic Charity Organization, Abdullah Al-Matugh, participated in the II Summit of World Religious Leaders held in Baku.

In November 2019, a delegation led by the director of the Institute of History of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, academician Yagub Mahmudov, visited Kuwait. Within the framework of this visit, it has been ceremony of presentation of the books of the Institute of History published in Arabic - "Iravan Khanate: Russian occupation and resettlement of Armenians to the lands of Northern Azerbaijan", "Iravan Khanate: Iravan Castle - the fortress of heroism", "Iravan Khanate: Iravan mosques destroyed by Armenian vandals", "Chukhursad rulers and Khans of Iravan" and "Iravan Khanate: Khan's palace destroyed by Armenian vandals".

 

 

 

Culture:

On December 17, 2009, an exhibition of Kuwaiti artists was organized in Baku as part of Kuwait Culture Days.

On May 9-13, 2011, Days of Azerbaijani culture were held in the city of Al-Kuwait.

On July 7, 2011, a Kuwaiti-Azerbaijani music night was held in the city of Al-Kuwait.

On July 20-30, 2011, the winners of the essay "What do I know about Azerbaijan" among Kuwaiti students visited Baku.

In August 2012, the book of poems "Take Me to the Sun" by Suad Al-Sabah, a well-known Kuwaiti poetess, was translated into Azerbaijani and published.

On November 27-30, 2012, Days of Kuwaiti culture were held in Baku.

On February 17-22, 2013, culture days of Azerbaijan were held in Al-Kuwait city. Two concerts of the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra were organized within the framework of the series of events held in connection with the 95th anniversary of the world-famous Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev during the Days of Culture.

On March 11-19, 2013, Fifteen Kuwaiti musicians and experts participated in the International Mugham Festival held in Baku.

On April 23-26, 2013, The Kuwaiti delegation participated in the "Competition-Festival of Classical Music Performers of the Youth of the Islamic World" held in Baku.

On April 24-26, 2014, Kuwaiti musicians took part in the III International festival-competition of classical music performers of the Islamic world held in Baku, and Kuwaiti music performer Lulu Al-Shamlan took the first place among young people in the younger age group.

On May 19-22, 2014, Azerbaijani musicians-violinist Salim Abbasov and pianist Gorkhmaz Gurbanov visited the State of Kuwait to participate in the ceremonial presentation of the book "Ilham Aliyev-Biography Continues" and the event held on the occasion of "May 28 Republic Day".

In July 2014, the President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador, MP Mehriban Aliyeva was awarded the high award of the State of Kuwait for her contribution to the worldwide promotion of Islamic culture, noble charitable activities, including education and healthcare in Azerbaijan. The diploma was signed by Sheikha Latifah Al-Fahd Al-Salim Al-Sabah, the Chairperson of the Committee on Women's Affairs of the State of Kuwait. It should be noted that this is the first award given to a foreign social and political figure outside the country on behalf of Kuwaiti women.

On November 5-6, 2014, Muhammad Al-Ajmi, Deputy Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Culture and Literature of Kuwait, participated in the III International Theater Conference, took place in Baku, on the theme "The Place of Theater Art in the System of Multiculturalism-Universal Values", dedicated to the theater problems of the modern era, and held jointly by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the National Academy of Sciences and the Union of Theater Workers of Azerbaijan.

On May 18-19, 2015, Saud Al-Huraiji, head of the Kuwait-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, Walid Abdulaziz Al-Ammar, director of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait, and Khalaif Mutaib Al-Zainah, Deputy of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs of the State of Kuwait for foreign relations and Hajj issues participated in the III World Intercultural Dialogue Forum held in Azerbaijan.

On November 23-27, 2015, Haitham Saleh Aalathar, Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education of the State of Kuwait and Ahmad Al-Enezi, Secretary General of the Kuwait National Commission for Education, Science and Culture participated in the 35th meeting of the Executive Council (23-24 November 2015) and the 12th General Conference (26-27 November 2015) of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), held in Baku.

On May 5-6, 2017 a delegation led by Ali Al-Yuhan, the Secretary General of the National Council for Culture, Art and Literature of the State of Kuwait visited our country in order to participate in the IV World Intercultural Dialogue Forum held in Baku.

In May 2018, a concert was organized in Kuwait City with the participation of "Baku Chamber Youth Orchestra" of Baku Music Academy and well-known musicians.

From November 16 to December 30, 2021, the participant from Kuwait, Tarik Al- Yusuf was winner of the second place in the international essay contest "Letter to Nizami Ganjavi" organized within the framework of "2021 - Nizami Ganjavi year" in connection with the 880th anniversary of the birth of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi.

Tourism:

On March 29-April 2, 2011, within the framework of the measures implemented in connection with the declaration of 2011 by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E Mr. Ilham Aliyev as the "Year of Tourism" in the Republic of Azerbaijan, high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated with a special exposition in the International Tourism Exhibition held in Al-Kuwait city.

In 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, 25-30 thousand Kuwaiti tourists (excluding residents) visited Azerbaijan from Kuwait.

Since 2016, Kuwaiti citizens have been introduced to the simplified visa process at the international airports of Azerbaijan, and since 2017, Kuwaiti citizens have been given the opportunity to obtain an electronic visa in a short time through the "ASAN Visa" system. Since 2017, the first direct flight to Kuwait was carried out. Currently, in addition to Azerbaijan's "AZAL" airline, Kuwait's "Al-Jazeera" and "Kuwait Airways" airlines carry out direct flights between capitals of two countries.

Sports:

On April 25-29, 2013, the national team of our country, under the leadership of Vice President of Azerbaijan Shooting Federation Rasim Rzayev, took part in the 1st Asian Sporting (sport hunting) Kuwait Grand Prix held in Al-Kuwait.

On August 15-21, 2014, Representatives of the Kuwait Shooting Federation participated in the International "Grand Prix" of Olympic shooting competitions dedicated to the memory of the great leader Heydar Aliyev, organized by the "Gabala" Shooting Club, with the joint support of the National Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan, and the Azerbaijan Shooting Federation.

On April 10-12, 2017, the delegation led by Sheikh Fahd Jabir Al-Ali Al-Sabah, the President of the Kuwait National Olympic Committee, visited our republic in order to discuss the participation of Kuwaiti athletes in the IV Islamic Solidarity Games hosted by Azerbaijan on May 12-22, as well as the issues of common interest with officials in the field of sports.

Trade and economic cooperation

Economic cooperation:

In 2004, the Arab Economic Development Fund of Kuwait allocated a loan for the rehabilitation of the Alat-Gazimammad high-speed road.

On May 30-31, 2006, the Minister of Economic Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited Kuwait to attend the annual meeting of the Islamic Development Bank. During the visit, the Minister of Economic Development held meetings with the President of Islamic Development Bank, the Minister of Finance, and the Director General of the Supreme Council for Investments of Kuwait.

In May 2009, Kuwait-Azerbaijani Business Forum was held in Al-Kuwait city. Representatives of 10 companies operating in industry, agriculture, construction and other fields from Azerbaijan participated in the business forum organized with the support of the Ministry of Economic Development, the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Fund (AZPROMO) and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Kuwait. About 20 entrepreneurs represented the Kuwaiti side at the event.

On January 10, 2011, the first meeting of the Joint Commission on Cooperation between the governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State of Kuwait was held in Kuwait, and the second meeting was held in Baku on February 13-14, 2013.
